Ballard is a Northwest neighborhood in Seattle with close historical ties to fishing and logging. Due to the annexation of the City of Ballard by Seattle in 1907, Ballard's official boundaries are defined by Crown Hill to the north, Greenwood and Phinney Ridge on the east, Salmon Bay and Puget Sound on the west, and Elliot Bay on its southern edge.
There are boundaries that used to exist before that are recognized by various Seattle City Departments, commercial or social organizations, and other Federal, State & local government agencies
Ballard is home to the Ballard Locks, National Nordic Museum, Shilshole Bay Marina, and Golden Gardens Park
The main streets running North-South are Seaview, 32nd, 24th, Leary, 15th and 8th Avenues. Traffic going east-west is carried by N.W. Leary Way and N.W. 85th, 80th 65th and Market Streets.
The Ballard Bridge connects the Interbay neighbourhood with 15th Avenue, and the Salmon Bay Bridge crosses the BNSF Railway tracks west of the Ballard Locks.
Ballard is entirely contained within District 6, and it covers most of the nearest surrounding neighborhoods including Fremont, North Beach/Blue Ridge, and Wallingford.
Ballard is part of Seattle Public Schools and the Washington State Legislature's 36th legislative district. Ballard is in District 7, which is in the US House of Representatives.
Ballard was settled by the Dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish) Tribe after the last glaciation period. The plentiful Salmon and Clams in the region led to many early settlers.
The U.S. government has a coding system to track which ethnic group someone belongs to for the CDC. It's called A11-M43 and H71 in the CDC and in this case, A01-M43 and H71 in the Burke Museum's list of items in their possession.

Some writers refer to the events around Shilshole as a "great catastrophe", with the remaining dozen or so families left. These families were then evicted by non-Natives in the mid 19th century
One possible reason for the decline of Salish in Shilshole was that they were raided by Natives from Queen Charlotte's Island and this also alarmed non-Native settlers
It is very sad that Salmon Bay Charlie was the last of the Shilshole natives to be removed for the construction on Hiram Chittendon Locks.
